> Generic Pharmaceuticals
The Company
principally focuses its generic-development activities on products
that have one or more characteristics that make it difficult for other
competitors to develop competing products. For North American markets,
which include the U.S. and Canada, the Company pursues generics that
have one or more of the following:
•
complex formulation or development characteristics
•
specialized manufacturing capability requirements
•
difficult-to-source raw materials
•
complex regulatory or legal challenges, including patent challenges
To support its generic
business outside of North America, the Company develops distinct generic pharmaceuticals
while pursuing commodity generic products that strengthen its ability to compete in select
European markets. Commodity generic products, either developed internally or in-licensed,
permit Barr to strengthen market share based on its significant marketing and distribution
strengths in key European and Rest of the World (ROW) markets.
